Pope Francis elevates the Marian Shrine at Knock to international status

Knock is an internationally recognised Marian Shrine and was visited by Pope Saint John Paul II in 1979 as part of his apostolic pilgrimage, and in 2018 by Pope Francis as part of the celebrations in Ireland for the IX World Meeting of Families.

The Holy Father, Pope Francis, has appointed Father Martin Hayes, a priest of the Archdiocese of Cashel & Emly, as the new Bishop of Kilmore. The Diocese of Kilmore includes almost all of County Cavan and a portion of Counties Leitrim, Fermanagh, Meath and Sligo.

Ireland highlighted in US State Department human trafficking report

Ireland received its lowest rating ever by the U.S. State Department for its efforts to combat human trafficking. The 2020 Trafficking-in-Persons (TIP) report listed Ireland on the “Tier 2 Watch List” of countries, just one step above the department’s Tier 3 rating reserved for countries with worst records in fighting human trafficking.
