Do 3 Day Lough Derg Pilgrimage from Wherever You Are from 27 June

Lough Derg Prior Fr La Flynn has issued an open Invitation for Pilgrims Worldwide to ‘Do Three Day Lough Derg Pilgrimage from Wherever You Are’ from 27 June. The Novel form of the traditional pilgrimage follows the announcement that the traditional three day pilgrimage has been suspended for the 2020 season due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Prior Fr La Flynn issued the warm invitation to pilgrims in Ireland and worldwide to Do Lough Derg from wherever you are from 27 – 29 June 2020, along with Fr Flynn and some of the Lough Derg Pastoral Team.

Fr Flynn said, “I am offering an invitation to faithful regular pilgrims to do Lough Derg from afar. I am also welcoming anyone who may wish to take part in this historic event for Lough Derg.” [For further information on how to be part of this unique pilgrimage experience visit https://loughderg.live/ and click on Three Day Pilgrimage.]

Speaking of the decision to suspend the three day pilgrimage season due to the Covid19 Pandemic, Fr Flynn said,  “Striking the right balance between Covid-safety and welcoming pilgrims back to Lough Derg with confidence was the deciding factor.

“As pilgrims know from experience, by its very nature the pilgrimage is a tactile one.  Pilgrim hands and feet in touch with the stones on the penitential beds – this is at the heart of what it means ‘to do the pilgrimage’ on Lough Derg.”

This will not be a virtual pilgrimage. For those who register it will entail the full exercises of the traditional Three Day Pilgrimage: the 24 hour vigil, the three day fast, and the nine Station Prayers performed in bare feet.
